Yoga has been analyzing attention, thought, and emotion for over two thousand years. The discipline teaches that focus becomes possible when you choose where your attention goes and gently bring it back when it wanders. In yoga, this means tuning into the rhythmic flow of moving asanas, or connecting with your breath to evade distractions when you are holding a pose steady. While silencing the mental chatter of our mind is not the goal, you can gently direct your mind in a disciplined and concentrated direction.

Mantras

Attention goes where I deliberately place it.

Focus is a skill I strengthen with each breath.

Having a positive attitude does not mean being unrealistically optimistic, or pretending everything is good, or being in denial. Rather, it’s the realization that while you can’t change reality, you can adjust your attitude toward it. You can focus on the things you can control. You can reframe the situation for a more positive outlook. To practice in class today, you can control your breath, your effort, your pace, and your attitude.

Mantras

My attitude shapes how I experience reality.

With each pose, I choose to frame my thoughts with a positive attitude.

Posture is how you present yourself anatomically and emotionally. Your external posture both reflects and shapes your inner state. Expansion expresses confidence. Contraction accesses empathy and inward awareness. When we adjust the body, the mind responds; when we shift the mind, the body reorganizes. Posture is the meeting point between the two. Even smiling or frowning, which are physical displays of posture, can affect emotion.

Mantras

Posture is the bridge between my inner world and outer expression.

Strengthening my posture is a daily act of self-respect.

Vitality refers to that feeling of coming back to life after running on empty. It is your ability to generate physical and mental energy through small, repeatable habits—like movement, breath, rest, and nourishment. You build vitality by noticing what drains or fuels you and making simple daily choices that support your energy rather than deplete it.

Mantras

Even the tiniest spark within me can be reignited.

I rebuild energy by moving with intention.
