Theme Commentary

Mindfulness is about being completely in the now, aware of what you’re experiencing through all your senses. Think of it as a tool to escape autopilot, moving beyond both multitasking and preoccupation with the past or future. In everyday life, it means actually tasting your food instead of eating mindlessly, listening to someone without planning your reply, or taking a breath before responding when you’re stressed. By actively living in the present moment, mindfulness reduces automatic reactivity and creates space for more skillful, conscious choices in daily life.

Mantras

I am here, now, fully immersed in this moment.

I release distractions and focus on what is real right now.

Quotes

“If you’re always racing to the next moment, what happens to the one you’re in? Slow down and enjoy the moment you’re in and live your life to the fullest.” ― Nanette Mathews, author

“The way to live in the present is to remember that ‘This too shall pass.’ When you experience joy, remembering that ‘This too shall pass’ helps you savor the here and now. When you experience pain and sorrow, remembering that ‘This too shall pass’ reminds you that grief, like joy, is only temporary.”– Joey Green (American author)

“Mindfulness is knowing what you are experiencing while you are experiencing it. It is moment-to-moment awareness, has the quality of being in the now, a sense of freedom, of perspective, of being connected, not judging.”– Guy Armstrong, meditation teacher, quoted in PositivePsychology.com

“Doing one thing at a time is the secret of being fully present.”— Shunryu Suzuki, founder of San Francisco Zen Center

“Be where you are; otherwise you will miss your life.”— Buddha
