Refuel Your Well-Being"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>How are you feeling? Tired? Rushed? Anxious? Stressed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That seems to be a fact of life in today\u2019s society. We keep\ntrying to do more in less time. And as the saying goes, we\u2019re often <em>running\non fumes<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stop it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right. Easier said than done. I get that. But yet refueling\nyour well-being is so very, very important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/empty-fuel-2-300x200.png\" alt=\"Empty fuel gauge\" class=\"wp-image-736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/empty-fuel-2-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/empty-fuel-2.png 389w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Check Your Fuel Gauge<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go back to my initial question. How are you feeling? Do a\nthorough scan of your <a href=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/well-being-template\/\">mind, body, and\nspirit<\/a>.&nbsp; Where do you most need to refuel? Maybe you could just \u201ctop\noff\u201d your well-being in some areas and recharge in others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you need right now may differ from what you needed\nyesterday. Or what you\u2019ll need tomorrow. Honor that. Respect that. Focus on it.\nWhen you try to \u201cfix\u201d everything all at once,&nbsp;you are likely to fix nothing\nwell. Look for the most pressing <em>potholes<\/em> in your well-being to get\nstarted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use massage or exercise to loosen tense muscles.&nbsp;Nap if\nyou\u2019re sleep-deprived. If you\u2019re overwhelmed, a nature walk might help. And if\nyou\u2019re lonely, getting out with people could be the cure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/pothole-1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Pothole\" class=\"wp-image-739\" width=\"113\" height=\"150\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Recharge in the order your well-being requires. Delay\nexercise if what you need is a nap. And postpone napping if what you need is\nexercise. Address the deepest potholes first. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Quick Refuels <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes you can\u2019t immediately fill your well-being potholes, but still need adjustment. Here are a few quick fixes to refuel your well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/grateful-Photo-by-Carl-Attard-from-Pexels-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Photo-by-Carl-Attard-from-Pexels-1.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-740\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/grateful-Photo-by-Carl-Attard-from-Pexels-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/grateful-Photo-by-Carl-Attard-from-Pexels-1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/grateful-Photo-by-Carl-Attard-from-Pexels-1-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Grab a granule of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/the-gift-of-gratitude\/\"><strong>gratitude<\/strong><\/a>.\nFocus on something you are (or could be) thankful for. A brilliant sunrise.\nAppreciation for someone stopping the elevator door to wait for you. A clean\noffice. Compel yourself to be genuinely grateful\u2014GENUINELY GRATEFUL. Fixating\non gratitude forces out the negative thoughts that siphon your well-being. <\/li><li><strong>Muster a <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindful.org\/meditate-at-your-desk\/\"><strong>moment of meditation<\/strong><\/a>.\nClose your eyes. Take a brief serenity break to clear your mind and calm your\nnerves. &nbsp;While 5-minute, 10-minute, or longer meditations strengthen\nwell-being on an ongoing basis, you can insert impromptu meditations any time\nduring the day. (But since your eyes are closed, it\u2019s best to not do it while\ndriving!)<\/li><li><strong>Revel in rich respiration<\/strong>. Take deep\nbreaths. Slowing your breathing can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/3\/30\/15109762\/deep-breath-study-breathing-affects-brain-neurons-emotional-state\">relax\nyour brain<\/a> and quiet emotional stressors. Inhale slowly through your nose\nand hold it for a couple of seconds. Expand your belly as you breathe in. (This\nis abdominal or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellmind.com\/how-to-reduce-stress-by-deep-breathing-2797585\">diaphragmatic\nbreathing<\/a>.)&nbsp; Then exhale slowly through the nose or mouth. Try to\nrelax all the muscles in your body as you are exhaling. Do this 3-5 times as a\nbreak from\u2014or to prepare for\u2014a stressful situation.<\/li><li><strong>Snatch a <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bodybuilding.com\/content\/6-stretches-you-can-do-at-your-desk.html\"><strong>string\nof stretches<\/strong><\/a>. Stretching can increase your range of motion, prevent\npain, and enhance physical and mental well-being. And you can do it in\nfractions of idle moments.<ul><li>Starting with your head, bring your right ear to\nyour right shoulder until you feel a stretch. Then roll your head down so your\nchin tucks to your chest. Continue rolling to the left side. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Next, with an erect spine, turn your head to\nlook over your right shoulder, then your left. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Moving to shoulders, shrug up and down, front\nand back. As you shrug backward, raise your shoulders up and back before\nlowering them down. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Continuing to the upper back, clasp hands\ntogether and rotate the palms toward the front as you stretch your arms forward.\n<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Keeping the hands clasped, raise them over your\nhead; bend to the left and to the right. You should feel it in the midsection\nand sides. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>For a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifehack.org\/492069\/4-simple-desk-based-stretches-for-effective-lower-back-pain-relief\">spinal\nstretch<\/a>, sit up straight, bend toward your thighs, and slide your hands\nalong your legs until they touch the floor. &nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>For the lower back, a torso twist might be in\norder. Grab the right arm of the chair with both hands and twist at the waist\nto look over your right shoulder. Switch to the other side.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>To stretch the hip flexors, stand up. With your\nbackside toward the chair, place your right leg on the chair so that your shin\nis parallel to the floor. Shift forward until you feel a stretch above the knee\nof the right leg. Repeat with the left side.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>While still standing, bend down while raising\nthe toes of one foot to stretch the hamstring and calf muscles. Continue on the\nother side. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Finally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.customfitonline.com\/news\/2017\/3\/9\/easy-wrist-stretches\/\">flex\nand extend wrists<\/a> and fingers.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/road-Photo-by-Sebastian-Palomino-from-Pexels-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Photo-by-Sebastian-Palomino-from-Pexels.jpg\" class=\"wp-image-731\" width=\"512\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/road-Photo-by-Sebastian-Palomino-from-Pexels-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/road-Photo-by-Sebastian-Palomino-from-Pexels-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/lindagorchels.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/road-Photo-by-Sebastian-Palomino-from-Pexels-768x1152.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mountains and Valleys<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The road to well-being isn\u2019t straight and flat. There are\nmountains and valleys\u2014exuberant highs and wrenching lows. The challenge is to\nenjoy the scenery whether you\u2019re on the high road or the low road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Descartes said there are no mountains without valleys. True.\nBut you have to accept both. In fact, you contribute to problems by expecting\nwell-being to always be on the upswing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manage your well-being through its ups and downs. Fill the potholes with quick fixes when necessary. Then focus on the long-term. Well-being is an attitude\u2014a way of life.
