Actually, it\u2019s the <em>name<\/em> of the\nsound (rather than ani imitation of the sound) that\u2019s pronounced differently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are different rules for different languages. Some are\nmore nasal and others are more guttural, changing the pronunciation of the\nsounds. And some have different alphabets. While the name of the sound cats\nmake (some variation of meow) holds steady across most languages, that\u2019s not\ntrue for other animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, in the United States, children\u2019s books portray\nthe sound of a rooster as <em>cock-a-doodle-doo<\/em>. But in Russia it\u2019s\nku-ka-re-k\u00fa; in China it\u2019s wo-wo-wo, and in Germany it\u2019s kickeriki. I wasn\u2019t sure that was the role modeling I wanted for them. (In\nfull disclosure, they DID receive Barbie dolls from their paternal grandma.)\nBut now there are options. Since the late 1800s,\n98.6\u00b0\nF (37\u00b0\nC) was considered the average temperature for a healthy individual. However,\nthat norm is changing. In a study published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/elifesciences.org\/articles\/49555\">eLife<\/a>, researchers from\nStanford University analyzed over 600,000 measurements from almost 200,000 people in\nthree databases. One was from Civil War veterans, the second from a national\nstudy in the 1970s, and the third from a Stanford database from the 2000s.\nAfter \u201cadjusting for age, height, weight and, in some models date and time of\nday,\u201d the study indicated that the average American body temperature has\ndropped about 0.05 F per decade. This is consistent with a separate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-medical.net\/news\/20200113\/Study-suggests-average-body-temperature-in-humans-falling.aspx\">British\nstudy<\/a> from 2017 that&nbsp; \u201cshowed a decrease in the average from\n98.6F [to about] about 97.88 F or 36.6 degrees Celsius.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s cold outside.
